Mission
My mission, as the school nurse in the MSAD#11 district, is to support student success by competently addressing the physical, emotional and social needs of the student population through assessment, intervention, and follow-up.
My Background
I grew up in Gardiner Maine and attended MSAD #11 schools, graduating from Gardiner Area High School in 1986. I then attended the University of Southern Maine and graduated with a degree in Criminology in 1990. I immediately started working with mentally disabled adults, enrolled in a CNA class, and decided to go back to college to pursue the nursing profession. I graduated from the University of Southern Maine in 1995 with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
I have worked for MSAD #11 as the school nurse at Gardiner Regional Middle School for the past 7 years. In addition to working as a school nurse I also work for MaineGeneral Medical Center at Express Care where I have been employed for 10 years. I have been an employee of MaineGeneral Medical Center for a total of 28 years. During that time I have worked in Skilled Care, Medical Endoscopy, and the Emergency Department in addition to Express Care.
When I majored in Criminology in college I wanted to work with "at risk" adolescents. In fact I did my internship during my senior year at the Maine Youth Center in South Portland (now Longcreek Youth Development Center). I find that my career has come full circle; I work with adolescents and, indeed, some of the work I do involves working with students who are at risk for drug/alcohol abuse, homelessness, and incarceration. I am very grateful to do the work that I do every day.
